Gastrokid is our favorite food blog out there…hands down. We go to it for inspiration, and fabulous recipes to cook with the family. It was created by two foodie dads that know a thing or two about enhancing the family diner experience. Hugh Garvey, a features editor at Bon Appetit and Matthew Yeomans, a food and travel writer have written a cookbook that you will be using for years, and most likely will pass on to your own kids. We’ve had their book for a few weeks and we’ve been testing out several recipes…the verdict? A total thumbs up…way up. First off, the book is the perfect size for little hands. Even our 3 year old can easily hold it. Secondly, the photos will make you salivate, or just plain drool. One look at the picture of the pancetta and sage pizza on page 133 and you’ll be inspired to make you own dough in minutes. We also love the message behind the recipe book, which is to enjoy food. The authors want you to find what inspires you, so you’ll be able to show that enthusiasm to your tots. What a fantastic, yet simple and very doable idea. The recipes focus on meals that are well balanced, organic, and local. Excellent recipes for beginner cooks, to top notch chefs. After cooking quite a few meals from the book, we have to say our top three had to be the Curry Up, Shepherd’s Pie and the Fast Fishcakes. Our three year old also cleaned her plate when we all made Gatrokid’s Meet The Meatballs…perfect on sourdough bread with a simple salad. Are you as hungry as we are?
