Heading South?

Posted on

It’s that time of year mom…time to head south for warmer waters and sunny weather.  If you’re going to shake off the end of winter blahs, you need your babies dressed properly to protect them from the harmful rays of the sun.  In addition to sun screen, our wee ones will be wearing the new suits from Banz, a well known and well loved company that has been protecting children’s delicate eyes and skin for over a decade.  We’ll be packing their new reversible bucket hat (love the adjustable Velcro on the brim) and UV protective rashie & skirt set.  Perfect for a few days by the pool.  Originally designed in Australia, these swimwear must-haves are made to handle the sunniest of days.  Super durable too…our little swimmer wore her first Banz swimsuit for a few years and it still looks brand new.  Did we mention they are having a fabulous sale?  Perfect excuse to book a trip down south…gotta wear that new swimwear somewhere!

Vintage & Stylish

We found a fabulous dress that is a definite must have for any little girl who likes to go everywhere from high tea, to beach-combing…monkey bars to the theater.  You must have a look at the sweet vintage creations from Sailor Rose, a brilliant company that takes obvious pride and care in every stitch they sew.  We fell in love with the Baker Island dress with it’s organic nautical striped jersey top, paired with a gorgeous Liberty Of London skirt.  Too stunning for words, and it will be perfect for some shell hunting along the beach for our winter break.  We also have to mention Sailor Rose’s Forest & Field velvet dress in burgundy. Just right for all the Holiday gatherings and for all the winter birthday parties we’ll be going to.  It won’t be long before the mini A-listers catch on to Sailor’s hip dresses, so we suggest you get some of their vintage style into your closet before Violet and Suri clean them out.

Top 5 Baby Shower Gifts

Posted on

Shopping for the perfect baby shower gift can be a bit of a nightmare.  You want to make sure you get mommy and baby something useful, yet original. Something that stands out…but not too much.  Well, we compiled a top 5 list of the gifts that will make mommy very pleased.  We added our own personal faves just in case you want to really impress the guest of honor.

#1 Baby Blanket: Yes…a baby blanket.  But not just any old baby blanket.  Get one that’s big enough and so soft that you’d even use it.  Baby blankets that can double as nursing covers or play mats are even better.  Skip the cartoon characters with cheap flannel that pills in three washes.  Go for breathable, natural fabric.  What’s our favorite?  aden & anais , naturally.  They make the most amazing muslin baby blankets that we’ve reviewed a few times here on Celeb Baby Clothes.  Hands down, the best baby blankets available.

#2 Fancy Diaper Bag: Most new mommies have a new diaper bag bought, packed and ready by the door by the time they are 6 months along.  However, most new moms don’t splurge on a new designer baby bag.  They stick to the practical, forgetting that a little style goes a long way.  Mommy needs at least one special bag that looks good while at coffee with the ladies ad babies, and while dining a deaux with daddy.  We recommend the stylish offerings from Kate Spade ( love the Splodge design).  Gorgeous and practical.  Roomy enough for diapers and wipes, and special enough to make a new mommy smile.

#3  Bouncer:  A good sturdy and reliable bouncer is an absolute must…any mommy will tell you that.  Look for one that sooths the baby, but that also looks like it will stand the test of time.  A bouncer that runs out of steam quickly, or requires you to do the rocking is not what you want.  We suggest, that just this once you skip the organic, eco route.  A bouncer is meant to lull to sleep and entertain when awake…not look pretty with your living room couch.  Our favorite is the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders.  It’s a little flashy, but put all our babies to sleep and kept them busy so we could do what mommies do.  It looks out of place in our neutral living room, but who cares about that when the baby sleeps?

#4 Breastfeeding Pillow:  No one tells you how difficult breastfeeding can be.  We will.  You need all the support you can get.  We’ve tried quite a few brands and we love our Kuddle Ring from Bummis.  What makes this particular breastfeeding pillow different from all the rest is that it has a removable cover…perfect for all of life’s little messes.  Wish we’d known about this pillow the first time around.

#5 Books:  Really, a classic childrens book is the perfect gift.  Pick one of your favorites from when you were little, and write a little note in the cover.  Mommy-to -be will remember it as one of her favorite gifts.  Our baby book must have is Goodnight Moon.  Ours is dog eared and beaten up, but always a favorite.

Top 5 Maternity Style Basics

Thought we’d try something new here on Celebrity Baby Clothes.  Everyone always asks us “what’s you’re top five…?”.  So we thought each week we’d compile a “Top Five” list of baby gear, mommy stuff and everything fabulous in between.  This week we’ll give you our Top Five Maternity Must Haves:

#1. Maternity Bra:  Every new mom to be focuses on nursing bras, which are important, however, so is comfort while you grow that little bundle.  Our favorite selection happens to be from Motherhood Maternity.  They’re affordable and comfy and make your chest look fabulous.  Look for wide straps and at least three adjustment hooks, four is even better.  Get fitted too…no need to buy the wrong size.  Also, if you find one you really like, get it in black, white and nude.  You will thank yourself later.

#2. LBD: yes momma, even when you are with child, you do need a perfect “go to” dress for unexpected fashion emergencies, last minute dates and the all important night out with the girls.  May we suggest Isabella Oliver’s Satin Bow Dress or their Ruched Kiss dress.  Both are stunning and really do flatter your growing belly.  Add some drama with some heels and jewels and your all set for a night on the town.

#3. Jeans:  Don’t try and where your pre preg jeans till they just about burst…and don’t try and wear them after your belly pops.  Why be uncomfortable?  Invest in some good quality maternity jeans that you can dress up or down.  Get two pairs if they feel really comfy and look flattering.  We have two faves at both ends of the spectrum: Paige Denim Maternity Jeans and Old Navy Maternity Jeans.  Both are very comfy and quite flattering to your growing bottom.  The belly band in the Old Navy jeans never bunches up or looses shape, but they do run big.  Paige Denim will set you back a a few hundred, but you’ll look so good you won’t care.

#4. Pajamas/Lounge Wear:  We’re guilty of wearing our hubby’s college tees too when we are expecting…but really, isn’t it nice to slip into a soft pair of new jammies fresh from the dryer that fit just perfectly?  While your body is growing, treat yourself to some nice extra big jammies that help you sleep.  No need to wake up pulling at your too small flannels or poking a finger through the holes in your old sweatpants.  We love the lounge wear and jammies from the Gap the most.  Besides being super affordable and washable, they come in stylish patterns and fit generously.  Our close second would be the PJ’s at A Pea In The Pod.  vVry classy and perfect for when visitors drop by to see the new baby.

#5. Perfect Tee:  Jeans and tees are part of your daily uniform now, so why should that change when you are expecting?  Make sure it’s extra long, fitted and flatters your changing shape.  Our experience is that V neck looks better then scoop when you are growing.  Layer them with a tank or add a cute cardigan.  Just make sure it fits well…not stretched, or so short you’re pulling at it all day.  Go for neutrals, and that all important black.  Add color with scarves and accessories.  Our go to place for tees while expecting is Isabella Oliver and tanks from Old Navy’s Maternity line.

So there you have it.  Our mommy-to-be must haves.  Just add some sleep, a great haircut and yummy snacks and you’ll be feeling and looking fabulous.  Promise.

Baby Tub For A Modern Mommy

pink tub Flexi

You never know what you’ve been missing till after you have it.  In our case it was a fabulous baby bathtub.  We’ve been using a very appreciated second hand tub for our wee ones.  It never occurred to us that even a baby tub can be stylish and functional…until we heard about the Flexi Bathfrom Europe made by the hip Danish folks at Real Cool World.  Available in North America only since April (you could be one of the first to have one) ,it comes in gorgeous colors and had a no slip bottom.  Best part?  It folds up flat so you can store it under a bed, in a cupboard or on a shelf.  You can use your space more efficiently and be even more organized…or don’t fold it up ever just so you can show your too brilliant for words baby tub to all your mommy friends.  Perfect for small spaces and it would make very a memorable baby shower gift.  Promise.

Maternity Tees That Say It All

Celebrity mom favorite, 2 chix always keeps us smiling with their cheeky tees.  They make super soft, snug on the belly bump maternity tops with the funniest one liners and sayings.  Simple, yet they get their point across with style.   We heard their “Pregzilla” long sleeved hoodie was flying of the shelves and wanted to check it out ourselves.  Comfy, warm and so perfect for that day when you’re feeling sweet as pie one minute and a raging hormonal mama- to- be the next.  Spot on gift for that  newly preggers friend of yours…not showing yet but full of wild mood swings.  2 chix covered the A-List bellies of Angelia Jolie and Jennifer Garner…who will they adorn next?

A-List Baby Carrier Has A New Addition

Posted on

We’ve had a crush on Belle Baby Carriers since we met…they make the only baby carrier that our tot liked. True and tiring story. No crying or wiggling or fussing when he was in his organic denim carrier. Just happy smiles or blissful sleep. Put him in any other carrier and nobody was happy. We owe some serious shut eye to Belle’s fab carrier. We were thrilled to hear that Belle has a new design called the Sugar Plum and even more tickled to get to test it out. The Sugar Plum has all the function of their original model with a little extra style tossed in. The red, gold and green stripes in warm hues really make this carrier a stunner. The shiny material adds just enough drama and originality to make this baby snuggly a mommy must have. Best part? It comes with a head rest so when baby falls asleep, you don’t have to hold their head up for hours. Super mom of six, Angelina Jolie is also a Belle Baby fan, as is Julia Roberts. Easy to use, comfy for baby and it looks fabulous…what more does a busy (and fashionable) mommy need?

If bold prints and funky patterns are your thing, then we have some new designs for you.  Kuki, a truly original brand that we have featured before has some new threads that we just needed to let you know about.  Their “Happy” collection features some smart looking jammies made of super soft cotton and their signature stripes and patterns.  Love the “Zzzz” PJ’s and the Mike’s New Stripe blue baby blanket.  The blankie is double layered and made big enough for swaddling. Too bad none of it comes in “mommy” size. Sigh. Kuki is classy enough to impress as a baby shower gift  and stylish enough to keep for your own wee ones as well.
