Who better to get some maternity style pointers from than the experts. Vanessa Knox-Brein and Baukjen de Swann Arons, the brilliant co- founders of Isabella & Oliver gave us some very useful tips when it comes to dressing your changing pregnant body.   Read this and share it with your expecting friends. We already have.

Celeb Baby: We all need basics for our wardrobe.  What do you feel are three essentials for a maternity wardrobe?

V&B: A sexy Black Wrap Dress- always works- for day or evening, extremely feminine and plays up your beautiful curves and has a comfortable, adjustable fit. A crisp White Shirt- another classic that always works, with jeans or tailored trousers for the office. A flattering pair of jeans- an absolute everyday wardrobe essential.

Celeb Baby: Where do you get your ideas and inspiration from for new lines?

V&B:From the beginning, we were hugely inspired by the lackof choices there were for pregnant women who wanted to remain stylish during pregnancy, so we set outto create something that we felt pregnant women wanted (and desperately needed). We wanted pieces that not only worked with our personal dressing  style but our lifestyles as well.  It was a simple concept- a capsule collection of mainly jersey pieces that could be dressed up or down, for day or evening and most importantly, make you feel beautiful and sexy.  We still live by this main principle.

Celeb Baby: Maternity wear has come a long way since our grandmothers and mothers…when did you see style start to come into play?

V&B:When pregnant celebrities started coming out in the magazines looking amazing and showing all.  One of the main turning points, we feel was that famous Vanity Fair Cover with Demi Moore in full glory.

Celeb Baby: You have a very impressive list of celebrity clients. Is there a celebrity mom in particular you’d love to dress?

V&B:Cate Blanchett- we love her style.  Always elegant and timeless.

Little Uni Has Us Smitten

When you find a company you can trust for quality and top notch designs, you stick with them.  We absolutely love Little Uni and their amazingly sweet designs.  Their children’s line of tees, onsies, hats and pants are a true mix of style, originality and playfulness.  Not an easy feat to pull off, if you ask us.  Each handcrafted  piece has a sewn applique that can be personalized with your child’s name if you wish.  We kept it simple and classic and went with their heather grey tee shirt with the pink and green blossom tea pot.  Singing “I’m  A Little Tea Pot”  just got a little more fun in our house.  Our other favorite is their Cho Cho Train design.  All children have a whimsical fascination with trains, and this tee also manages to appeal to adults with it’s modern pattern and colors.  Everyone’s happy!  Have a look all their new designs and we’re sure you’ll love your Little Uni tee just as much as we do.  In fact we’re certain.

What’s one item of clothing your child can’t do without this summer?  A hoody, mommy.  Seriously, it’s the most versatile and functional piece to a kid’s wardrobe.  They keep you warm on breezy summer evenings, keep you covered when the mosquitos are nipping, and keep you dry when you run for cover during an unexpected summer rain shower.  We like the hoodies from the Euro chic Plush.  Their handmade Raf hoody is so original and our tot loves wearing it so much that she just about sleeps in it (last night we gave in…wasn’t worth the fuss!).  Love the felt giraffe applique that “peeks” around under the arm.  The modern gray shade goes with most everything in our wee one’s closet and the fabric is soft on her skin.  While browsing Plush’s other creations we just noticed their new Fink dress.  Perfect for the playground, art museum or a birthday celebration.  Oh my, those Europeans know how to make childrens clothes hip, sophisticated and functional.  Have a look at Plush and tell us what you think…and let us know what you purchased!

Now that summer is nearly here, we are on the hunt for hip tank tops for our tots.  Nothing too cute…no trendy crossbones, and frilly lace is an absolute no-no.  We want modern colors and original graphics that appeal to us and our rambunctious crew.  So happy that celeb fave Milkshaxs has heard our cries for smart baby apparel.  This fantastic Canadian company has a new Spring line that has knocked our wooly winter socks off.  Our two absolute musts for summer are the Beccy’s Shoes tank and the Surfboards tee. Both designs are sophisticated yet very kid friendly.  Love the soft feel and fit of their clothes and the fact that most creations are made with bamboo or organic cotton.  Style mixed with tree hugging eco friendliness…nothing better than that.  Get some Milkshaxs in time for the summer waves and rays.  You will be as pleased as we are.  Promise.

Shopping online for childrens clothing is just about the smartest mommy tip we can hand along to you. It’s fast, easy, and very satisfying.  There’s no temper tantrums to deal with (at least till the visa bill comes…)…you don’t have to spend a sunny day at the dreaded mall and you can do it in the comfort of your home, snuggled up on the couch sipping a yummy coffee (or needed glass of vino).  One of our favorite places to shop is Little Milk Junkie.  They carry the creme de la creme of kids clothes and the service is divine.  Our latest purchase?  The Navy & White Striped Dress from Petit Bateau.  It’s a true classic, easy to wash and wear and looks fabulous paired with dark denim capris or alone with sun kissed bare feet.  You can bet we’ll be back for more from their collection of threads from Kate Mac and Charlie Rocket. So momma, after they’re all tucked in, flip on the computer, pour whatever keeps you going and have a look at all the fab clothes at Little Milk Junkie.  You will thank us later.

vol-1-cards

We are a busy group of people, us mommies…aren’t we?  So when we stumble upon a creation that makes life easier and sweeter, we let out a huge sigh of relief. KidCards has done just that for us here.  They have created these amazing spiral coloring booklets that have pre drawn pictures that can be removed, colored and folded into a meaningful, homemade greeting card.  They even include the envelopes…how fabulous is that?  Your little budding artist gets to color their heart out, you get some quality time with your child and a lucky “someone” gets a personal  card.  We love the whimsical and child friendly drawings and the fact that it made our very own tot say “look what I made mamma!” (makes us tear up a little…really).

Want a little something extra, just for being a Celebrity Baby Clothes reader?  Sure ya do. Go to KidCards and click on Buy Online, then enter the Penny Promotion Code “Blogger Bonus” in the box when purchasing 2 or more books. You will get the crayon set AND watercolor paint set for 1 Penny. Brilliant!

Pssst…KidCards wants you to tell us the name of their creator and they’ll send you a free greeting card booklet! Sharpen your colored pencils and email us at celebritybabyclothescontest@gmail.com by May 27th at midnight to win.

Who do we recommend when our pregnant pals ask for style advice?  2 chix has always made us feel hip, fresh and comfy so they always get a huge thumbs up from us.  We love their new and very in demand line of ruched tunics, and now their 40 week skirt comes in a shorter style as well, know as the 40 Week Foldover Skirt.  The skirt is made of pre washed vintage cotton and is so comfortable and stretchy that you really will want to wear it after the baby is born too.  The waistband can be folded down or worn over your growing belly for extra comfort.  Perfect from the first signs of a baby bump to breastfeeding the newborn bambino in the park.  Seriously.  The Ruched Tunics are by far our favorite new creation that 2 chix has designed.  Really soft and they look fantastic with jeans or dressed up with some heels and jewels.  Definitely versatile.  Have a look at their modern take on maternity wear and enjoy a 20%discount until June 30th/09  if you use the code CELEBBABYSPRING. How fabulous is that mammas?  While you’re shopping have a look at their witty “Daddy” tees…perfect for Father’s Day if you ask us.

Clever New Baby Gear From Phil & Teds

wriggle_wrapper_gretter_outside_chair_left

How many times have you showed up at your favorite restaurant with your babies in tow only to find out that they don’t have a high chair available…or it’s so dirty and trashed that sitting on the floor seems more sensible?  It used to happen to us all the time till we received our fabulous Wriggle Wrapper from the ingenious folks at Phil & Teds.  It has simply made our lives easier, less stressful and a little more hip.  The Wriggle Wrapper secures your baby to their seat  or your waist for meal time.  It wraps around babe just like a diaper and fastens to the seat…so easy even daddy will find it a snap. It’s also made to help secure your baby to a single bed for times of travel.  We love that it fits perfectly into our diaper bag, and that it brings baby down to our level for meal time (high chairs can be somewhat disconnecting, can’t they?).  The Wriggle Wrap would also make a brilliant baby shower gift to a momma and daddy who already live in close quarters… skip the high chair altogether and go for this modern and fresh alternative.  It washes easily so no worries if Jr spills the carrots or rubs mushy peas onto your new gear…just toss it in the washer and you’re good as new.  Phil & Teds knows baby gear and has an A-List following to prove it.  Gwyneth Paltrow and Niomi Watts are known fans of their strollers and we’re certain they soon be toting their Wriggle Wrappers on the red carpet soon enough.
